Uniting Urban and Rural Sketchers in the Tristate Region

Driftless Sketch (Platteville, WI and East Dubuque, IL) by Alice McMahon 2013

Here is an invitation to join a sketch artist community in the beautiful and historically rich Tristate and Driftless area, from Galena and Dubuque to Mineral Point and surrounding regions.

This idea is born of the "Urban Sketchers" movement, and our rich architectural heritage is something valuable to record in any medium. The gentle rolling landscape of the region is also inspiring to many.

Join Driftless Area Sketchers and post your sketches to our Facebook page!

Thanks! ~ Alice McMahon ~ Galena resident and local moderator.

This is the manifesto we follow:

(Stolen from the Urban Sketcher's website, why mess with perfection?)
  1. We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation.
  2. Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live and where we travel.
  3. Our drawings are a record of time and place.
  4. We are truthful to the scenes we witness.
  5. We use any kind of media and cherish our individual styles.
  6. We support each other and draw together.
  7. We share our drawings online.
  8. We show the world, one drawing at a time.
